CTA Offering Free Bus, 'L' Rides For New Year's Eve

Travelers will not need to tap their Ventra card or pay in any other way to get onto buses or into "L" stations late Saturday into early Sunday.

CHICAGO — The CTA will offer free service for New Year's Eve late Saturday.

The city is encouraging all revelers to take public transportation for the holiday, as it is the "most affordable, convenient and environmentally friendly way" to travel, according to a news release.

As part of that, the CTA will offer free bus and "L" rides 10 p.m. Saturday-4 a.m. Sunday, according to the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications. Travelers will not need to tap their Ventra card or pay in any other way to get onto buses or into "L" stations.

"Vienna Beef Plaza" will include offices for the hot dog brand and additional retail space. The restaurant is slated for a spring 2024 opening.

Youth activists are also calling for widespread policy changes at the local, state and federal levels.
