Woolworths shopper rages over underweight meat: 'Infuriating'

Mar 19, 2023Mar 19, 2023

A Woolworths customer has taken to social media to vent about her recent meat purchase after she realised it was well below the weight stated on the package.

The angry shopper shared a photo of two cuts of rump steak, which were meant to have a combined weight of 404 grams, but instead weighed a mere 213 grams according to her digital scale.

"Hey Woolworths what's the deal here???? As if we don't notice inflation enough with a standard shop, you're now ripping us off," the woman wrote in a post on the Woolworths Facebook page.

"404gram steak when it actually only weighs 213gram. The package doesn't weigh 191grams!!!!" she continued in the post, which has since been deleted.

Other shoppers were quite sympathetic.

"Omg that is infuriating," one shopper commented.

"Soak pads are also included in the weight. Still seems off but they need to be included," said another, to which the author of the post replied there were no soak pads in the packaging.

The woman's gripe with her underweight meat purchase is not the first, as there have been previous cases of shoppers complaining about the weight of Woolworths and Coles meat products over the past couple of years.

With cost of living pressures on the rise, it's no surprise that everyday Australians are watching food prices ever-so-closely and are demanding value for money.

Woolworths was quick to respond to the complaint, with a representative issuing an apology and reassuring the frustrated customer that she is able to return the product for a full refund or replacement.

"We're disappointed to see this. This will be escalated to our products team so they are aware and can investigate the issue," a Woolworths representative wrote in response to the now-deleted post.

"Please know that we have a Fresh or Free guarantee so if you're ever unsatisfied you may take the product packaging along with your receipt back to our service desk and our lovely team will cheerfully provide you with a full refund and replacement."
