Jan 05, 2024TxDOT to Begin Intermittent Closures Along JFK Causeway
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – A Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractor will begin fully closing the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway portion of the JFK Causeway bridge on Park Road 22 for short periods on Monday and Tuesday nights.
The closures will occur in short, 30-minute increments throughout the night, from 10:00 p.m. Monday through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday and again from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday to allow the contractor to replace the bearing pads on the bridge's main span. After each closure, the roadway will reopen to allow traffic to proceed before the next closure.
Temporary signals will control traffic.
The closures are part of a $9 million maintenance project designed to maximize the life of the bridge and reduce the overall life-cycle costs of the bridge.
The construction is focused on the bridge's main span but includes repair to the substructure, superstructure, and railing. Additionally, existing armor joints and bearing pads are being replaced. A new concrete overlay travel surface will also be applied to the bridge deck.
